The following are an overview of the main resources available for those interested in health, education and learning more about what efforts are being made locally, by both private and public agencies, to prevent the continuance of health risks mentioned previously. There are also several resources available for individuals who are seeking resources or facilities that provide health care or promote individual health and well being.

Programs and Initiatives:
- In order to address health disparities in Mecklenburg County, the County Manager established the Mecklenburg Health Disparities Taskforce, for the development of a county-wide strategic plan to eliminate health disparities. - Mecklenburg County offers a variety of dental and medical safety net services in a network known as Medlink. Medlink partners work jointly to better serve the community through improving access to health care for uninsured and under-insured residents. Health Disparities Being Addressed:
-Health Disparities and Socioeconomic Status (SES): recognizes the connection between income level and health/longevity -Disparities in Leading Causes of Death(2004 – 2008 Adjusted Death Rates): recognizes disparities based on income and race with stroke, coronary heart disease, Alzheimers, cancer(s), and HIV -Disparities in Health Risk Behaviors- Tobacco Use, Physical Activity and Dietary Behaviors: recognizes disparities based on race, ethnicity and income, to be more prone to risky health behavior -Disparities in Health Care Access, Preventive Care and Routine Screening: recognizes disparities based on race and income, and the ability to seek and gain health care. |
